Scrolling probems with Eclipse on Ubuntu 11.04

Was migrating my android dev setup to a new laptop running Ubuntu 11.04. So I had all my projects nicely exported and wanted to import them into my new box. Since I could’nt import without having at least a single existing project I tried creating a new project and noticed that with Unity my scroll bar was extremely thin and I just could’nt scroll down to select all the options, tab and keyboard options did’nt help as well. Swapped over to Ubuntu classic (and no effects and safe mode etc) and still the same.

No usable scrolling in default mode with Eclipse

No usable scrolling in default mode with Eclipse

Dug around a bit and tried to figure out how to get the scroll bar to get, well fatter and usable. Heres how:

echo “export LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0″ >> /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80overlayscrollbars

(Of course, you need to be root to do this :-) )

Logout and login again to make changes effective and then fire up Eclipse. Now we have:

Scroll works OK now

Scroll works OK now

Voila! :-)
